Jag är forskare i evolutionsbiologi och författare till en bok om religion. Därför intresserar jag mig speciellt för konflikten dem emellan.Engelska kyrkan agerar rakryggat och ber helt enkelt Darwin om ursäkt. "Charles Darwin: 200 år efter din födsel är den Engelska Kyrkan skyldig dig en ursäkt för att vi missförstod dig, och för att vi, genom vår felaktiga första reaktion, har uppmuntrat andra att fortfarande missförstå dig". Engelska kyrkan har också dragit igång en webbsida bara för Darwinjubileet där man noterar sådana saker som att Darwin var omgiven av kyrkans inflytande genom hela livet. Man undviker dock att nämna att samma sak gällt för vilken människa som helst i 1800-talets England.
Katolska kyrkan har inte kommit så långt att man faktiskt ber Darwin om ursäkt. Däremot noterade redan den förre påven att Darwins teorier kanske var värda att studera närmare. Nu har Vatikanen beslutat sig anordna en evolutionskonferens lagom till Darwinjubileet. Intressant nog har de meddelat att de inte vill ha med kreationister på konferensen, dvs. människor som tror att bibelns skapelseberättelser faktiskt är sanna.
En annan pikant detalj är att förespråkare för en "alltför vetenskaplig bild av evolution och naturligt urval" inte heller är välkomna. Eftersom evolution och naturligt urval är rent vetenskapliga teorier exkluderar detta tyvärr alla som forskar på ämnet. Detta kan knappast ha varit Vatikanens avsikt. De menar istället förmodligen att det behövs mer religion - katolicism - inom evolutionsvetenskapen. Var denna ska stoppas in är något oklart då vetenskapliga teorier uttryckligen inte får innehålla några övernaturliga inslag då sådana kan förklara precis vadsomhelst.
Under tiden fortsätter många frikyrkor att förespråka en mer bokstavlig tolkning av bibelns skapelseberättelse. Framför allt i USA är kreationism ett stående inslag i samhällsdebatten. Sarah Palin har t.ex. uttalat sig positivt för att man ska lära ut evolutionsteorin och bibelns skapelseberättelse parallellt, "så att barnen själva ska få bilda sig en uppfattning". Man frågar sig varför inte alkemi och kemi ska läras ut parallellt enligt samma resonemang, eller på vilken grund hon inte vill att hinduernas skapelseberättelser också ska presenteras.
Kristendomens nutida åsikter om evolutionsteorin är mångfacetterade; alltifrån Svenska kyrkans totala acceptans till Jehovas vittnens totala avfärdande. Men eftersom vetenskapen på senare tid börjat gå rätt hårt åt religionens trovärdighet ser kyrkor med en respektabel intellektuell tradition förmodligen till att försöka associeras med vetenskapens framsteg så gott de kan.
Det finns väl ingen seriös forskare som på allvar tror att människan och allt liv har utvecklats från en encellig organism till vad vi är idag?
Religion handlar mer om frågan "Varför?" än detaljer som du går in på. När du har fått svaret på varför kan du börja studera dessa petitesser!

Gustaf: Man kan lugnt säga att det finns en hel del forskare som har den ståndpunkten. Frågan du ställer är det inget fel på alls, med enda anmärkningen att den redan ställs på sitt rätta ställa; religionsundervisningen tar på ett objektivt och bra sätt upp alla olika tankar om -varför- t.ex evolutionen finns. I samtliga naturvetenskapliga ämnen bör dock endast vetenskapliga teorier anammas.
